As part of the ongoing cooperation between Don Bosco Salesian Institute in Cairo and the Egyptian Ministry of Work, the Institute welcomed H.E. Hassan Raddad, Minister of Work, on Saturday, during the inauguration of the 2026 Employment Fair and the presentation of certificates to graduates of the free vocational training programmes. The event was attended by Fr. Morcos Helmy, General Director of the Institute; Fr. Thomas John Leo, Regional Councillor of the Salesians in the Middle East; and representatives of the Italian Embassy, participating companies and institutions.
The visit included the inauguration of the 2026 Employment Fair, organized by the Institute in cooperation with the Ministry of Work. The fair brought together 40 companies offering an expected 1,435 job opportunities, including 1,168 technical positions. This highlights the importance of vocational and technical specializations in meeting labour market needs and opening new pathways for young people to move from training to employment.
During his visit, the Minister toured the Institute’s workshops and laboratories, where he explored the facilities and equipment used to train young people in various technical fields, including industrial electricity and control systems, refrigeration and air conditioning, automotive mechanics and maintenance, electronics, and other specializations required by the productive sector.
During the tour, the Minister met with several female trainees specializing in automotive mechanics and industrial fields. He listened to their experiences, learned about their practical training and the skills they are acquiring, and praised their choice of these technical specializations and their determination to learn and develop their abilities. Addressing them, he said, “This is the Egyptian woman,” expressing his appreciation for their commitment to acquiring professional skills and competing across different fields of work.
As part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Work and the Institute, 27,677 young men and women from 27 governorates applied for the free vocational training grants, with 2,918 trainees from 25 governorates benefiting from the programmes. A total of 3,321 training grants were implemented under the two projects for 2024–2025 and 2025–2026. The programmes covered more than 30 technical specializations, in addition to courses in English, Italian and personal skills, with a 92% success rate in the technical courses.
These activities reflect Don Bosco Salesian Institute in Cairo’s ongoing commitment to technical education and vocational training, preparing young people with practical and technological skills that meet labour market requirements. They also strengthen cooperation with government institutions and the private sector to expand employment opportunities and support professional development.
In its centenary year, 1926–2026, the Institute continues its mission of empowering young people and supporting their transition from training to employment and productive work, contributing to a better professional future for them.
