The Italian Salesian Institute “Don Bosco” in Cairo hosted vocational training courses for 151 young men and women interested in software and electronics careers. Hassan Shehata, the Minister of Labour, visited the programmes, and during their meetings, the trainees expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Labour for providing them with this free training scholarship made possible by the Training Fund. Additionally, the Ministry-affiliated training is carried out by the “Ministry” through the “Institute”.

The Ministry of Labour and the “Institute” have implemented a collaboration protocol, the first result of which is this “course.” It was signed in October 2023, and the Ministry announced that applications for a free scholarship to train in 23 professions through three programs in the areas of art, language, and “Soft skills” were now being accepted from young people of both sexes. In compliance with national and international norms, the purpose of this protocol is to share experiences in the field of vocational training, improving the effectiveness and competitiveness of graduates, trainees, and job seekers in the technical and craft fields.
In accordance with a press release issued today, Friday, the Ministry of Labor intends to train 2,000 young men and women in the following professions as a first step: first-level welding “electricity and oxyacetylene,” second-level welding “petroleum and high-pressure pipelines,” and third-level welding “carbon dioxide and argon.” Additionally, the protocol will cover electrical installations, automatic control electricity, Classic Control, “initial testing” motor winding, refrigeration and air conditioning, washing machine maintenance, PLC first level, PLC advanced level, PLC-SCADA & HMI, lathe, CNC, CNC milling, car mechanics, Graphic Design, AutoCA, Solidworks, PowerMill, Arduino,” Web Developer Programming, and Sewing and Clothes Tailoring, First Level and Sewing and Clothes Tailoring, Advanced Level.
In order to implement a cooperation protocol between the Ministries of Labor and the Public Business Sector to develop the skills of workers in this sector in their field of work, the Minister of Labor heard from leaders of the Italian Institute and specialists in the Ministry’s vocational training file about the executive plan for the protocol. They stated that during the next ten days, new courses will be started in which 400 young men and women will participate in the following professions: sewing, detailing, car mechanics, washing machine maintenance, motor winding, air conditioning and refrigeration, engineering drawing, electrical installations, and automatic control electricity. These courses will be followed by classes from which 200 trainees from the Holding Company for Spinning and Weaving will benefit.
Within the framework of the policy to shift Egyptian culture toward self-employment and small projects, Minister Shehata urged young people to apply as soon as possible for this free scholarship. She also encouraged them to take advantage of all the services offered by the “New Republic” in the area of vocational training, which will equip them for careers that are in demand in both the domestic and foreign labor markets.
According to Shehata, Europe has declared 2023 to be the “Year of Skills,” endorsing the Egyptian government’s vision and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives about the significance of advancing youth skill development and connecting technical education and training to the demands of the job market.
Under the framework of the Presidential Initiative for a Decent Life, the Minister continued, “This is what the Ministry of Labor is implementing on the ground, with all development partners at home and abroad, through its capabilities in the field of vocational training, with fixed and mobile training centers and vehicles spread throughout the Republic, as well as a financing fund.” The Ministry of Training and Qualifications was established to train and graduate new batches of Egyptian youth with international certificates and qualify them for the labor market. The Minister demonstrated his words by initiating this cooperation with the Italian Salesian Institute “Don Bosco” in Cairo.
The benefits of the new scholarship, according to the Ministry, include taking a technical and language course in English or Italian as well as learning about the subjects covered in the life skills course: self-awareness, understanding one’s own strengths and weaknesses, communication skills, time management, and writing a biography.
